"It is an occupational hazard that anyone who has spent her life learning how to lie eventually becomes bad at telling the truth."
All Katarina wanted to do was live a normal life. But leaving the family business wasn't as easy as she thought it would be, even after pulling the biggest con by herself in her life. Afterall, who wanted to stay in a family business of stealing? As she tries to stay low, her former partner-in-crime comes along and tries to bring her back - forcefully. However, he did have a good reason for his actions. A dangerous man had an important painting stolen from him; not only was her father on his suspect list, he was the only one on that list. In order to save her father, Kat has to find the real thief and most importantly, get the painting back. In the beginning, Katarina Bishop seems like a regular student who goes to a fancy school. However, we come to know that she might not be so regular afterall, especially among her peers. Nobody knew anything about her. Then things start getting interesting when Hale, a close friend of Kat's, gets Kat expelled from the school. Katarina Bishop is a strong fighter; she is willing to put herself in danger in order to save her family. Although she steals and participates in heists, she does so for the right reasons. However, Kat is not just an honorable superhero; she is also given characteristics of a normal teenage girl. The author, Ally Carter, allows the readers to relate to Katarina by showing us that she has weaknesses and insecurities, just like we do.
