Their relationship was a taboo. It was a crime punishable by death, but they didn't care. Farrin was a 15 year old girl, whose mother was operating secretly to eliminate Ayatollah Khomeini, her father taking advantage of Afghan refugees in his business. In order to get away from her reality, Farrin wrote fantasy stories. But one day, she met a new girl at school who changed her life forever. 'Moon at Nine' by Deborah Ellis is a nonfictional story that portrays love between two young girls.
I usually don't read these types of books, where it mostly focuses on romance (especially between two girls), but I didn't know what kind of a book it was until I was in the middle of reading it. I continued reading the book because the storyline was interesting and kept me wanting to finish it. I loved how the author ended the book. She used foreshadowing right until the end, where the expected truth came out. 'Moon at Nine' is able to fully illustrate the perception of love through the use of powerful descriptive words, and it is able to allow the readers to connect deeply with the characters and their situations.
