“If you are not trying to hold on to time, you are not so afraid of losing it.”
Who would've imagined that there was a whole new world just under New York? Especially one full of oversized, talking animals. A 11-year-old boy named Gregor with his 2-year-old sister, Boots, fall from the basement of their apartment and discover that they are not in New York anymore. Instead, they're in a world called the 'Underland', which contains giant animals such as rats and bats, and pale humans. Of the prophecies that has been written by the world's founder, Gregor is the 'warrior' and Boots is the 'princess'. The bonds between each character is very enduring, and makes the book worth reading. It's also very nice how we can see the main characters, Gregor and Boots, grow up in each book. For instance, Boots in first book is too little to fully understand anything, and cannot pronounce Gregor's name properly. As the book develops, Boots is able to pronounce one additional letter of Gregor's name until at the very end, she is able to pronounce his name correctly.
